Owing to the addition of new works in past years, an increased amount of maintenance requires to be undertaken. A supplementary vote for $6,000 is therefore requested.

Items the cost of which can be met wholly or in part by Savings from other sub-heads of the head are marked with an asterisk (*). The source and extent of the Savings will be found in the explanation of the individual items.

98.-34, Public Works Extraordinary :-Hong Kong. Port Works. Construction of Landing Place opposite Arsenal Street
In order to meet the need for additional landing facilities on the East Praya (Gloucester Road) in the neighbourhood of the China Fleet Club and the Seamen's Institute, it is proposed to erect a landing place for small craft opposite Arsenal Street.
The existing public pier at Fenwick Street has only one set of steps and has proved inadequate for the large number of boats that embark and disembark passengers at this spot.
No provision is made in the current year's Estimates for this work which is estimated to cost $7,000 and a supplementary vote for that amount is requested.
